You may feel that you are struggling with these issues alone and that you cant talk to your partner, friends or family. You might worry that these issues keep repeating themselves and that you will always feel stuck. Perhaps this is affecting how you feel about yourself in your relationships or at work. By exploring the feelings and experiences you find difficult, we will uncover, process and come to understand the feelings you are struggling with and how this informs how you move forwards.
About me and my practice
Clients experience a variety of outcomes, from the initial sharing of a problem that has been weighing them down, to a growing and deepening understanding of how these issues came about, to positive change in their key relationships, to how they feel about themselves on an average day.
Through this process, I will work with you to gain insight into your emotional reactions and behavioural patterns - such as getting angry, frustrated, scared, withdrawing or self-criticising - as you begin to build a new self-awareness. This emerging understanding will provide you with new ways of responding to situations you find difficult and - in the longer-term - will help you develop more of a say in how you lead your life and in the increasing life choices you can make.
Experience
My training includes a Masters in Advanced Clinical Practice with a focus on relational psychotherapy. Prior to this, I was trained in various therapeutic schools or modalities (this is called 'integrative'). This enables me to tailor the therapy to the specific needs of each client.
My training base is 'humanistic' which means that the needs and humanity of each client are at the core of the therapy and that I aim to help the client understand and connect with their internal, often under-used resources.
I'm trained in 'psychodynamic' counselling and psychotherapy which believes that the past has often had significant influence on how you live your life today. This approach can provide valuable self-knowledge, enabling you to better understand yourself and adapt to events in the present and the future.
I also have an interest and background in 'narrative'. Clients often feel, when we look at 'self-narrative' together, that they are seeing it for the first time. And yet, it becomes clear that it was often created a long time ago, perhaps in childhood. This revealing process can provide an understanding of why you behave the way you do, but also, it can enable you to connect with who you are now.
